The board of SVA governs our overall direction and purpose, acting as the centerpiece of governance, fiduciary and overall responsibility for SVA and related companies. Responsibilities include the approval of new Members. Our board brings a diverse range of business, financial, entrepreneurial and philanthropic capabilities to SVA.

Paul Robertson AM Chair Social Ventures Australia |
Paul Robertson is currently Director and Deputy Chair of St Vincent’s Health Australia. He is also Chair of St Ignatius College (Riverview), Chair of St Vincent’s & Mater Health Sydney Advisory Council and Founder and Director of Financial Markets Foundation for Children.
Paul has extensive experience in banking including 27 years at Macquarie Bank/Hill Samuel where he was an Executive Director, Global Treasurer and Integrity Officer of the Bank. He was also a Director and CEO of Macquarie Risk Advisory Services, chaired the Macquarie Awards Committee and chaired Macquarie Bank Sports. Paul has also served on a number of other commercial boards.
Adrian Appo OAM Chief Executive Officer, Ganbina |
As CEO of Ganbina, Adrian has been instrumental in motivating thousands of Indigenous people in the Goulburn Valley to improve their circumstances. A graduate of Fairley Leadership’s Community Leadership Program and the Williamson Community Leadership Program, Adrian has also studied at the Harvard Business School.
A Gureng Gureng man, Adrian served with distinction in the Royal Australian Air Force. An electrician by trade, he went on to specialise in the Department of Defence Telecommunications Technology, he holds a Bachelor of Teaching and taught for several years after leaving the RAAF. He then moved into the professional recruitment industry working as a consultant with both the private and public sectors before joining Ganbina. Adrian was awarded an OAM in 2011 for service to Indigenous youth through career planning, employment and training programs.

Tanya Gilerman has been a partner in KPMG Sydney’s Audit Financial Services practice for the last 12 years. Since 2009, Tanya’s role has also included the function of Chief Operating Officer of Audit nationally.
During the last 16 years, Tanya has worked with clients principally in the banking, finance and investment management industries. During this time, Tanya has provided assurance services and undertaken reviews of risk management practices, compliance plans and provided accounting advice.
Tanya is a non executive Director of The Benevolent society since 2006 and is a graduate of the 2006 Sydney Leadership Programme.

Rob is a Managing Director of Pacific Equity Partners, a leading Australian private equity investment firm. He has worked in private equity since 1998, for Pacific Equity Partners in Australia and Texas Pacific Group in Europe. During that time he has invested in companies across many sectors including retail, consumer products, business services and mining services.
Prior to his career in private equity, Rob was a strategic consultant with Bain & Company advising clients in a range of industries including communications, financial services, power and retailing from their offices in the United Kingdom, United States, Singapore and Australia.
Rob also serves on the boards of Energy Developments Limited, Hoyts Group, Goodstart Early Learning Limited and Spotless Group and the Corporate Advisory Council of Mission Australia.
Dr Lisa O’Brien MBBS (Hons), MBA, MHR&C, FRACMA CEO The Smith Family |
Lisa joined The Smith Family as CEO in February 2011. She has over 20 years experience in leadership roles in the health, community services, bio-technology and information technology industries. Lisa is a registered medical practitioner and specialist medical administrator. Prior to joining The Smith Family she was CEO of the Skin and Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Lisa is also a Director of the Community Council for Australia and Immune Systems Therapeutics Pty Ltd.
Richard Spencer |
Richard has spent many years working at CEO level in the non-profit sector. Most recently he was the CEO of The Benevolent Society from 2004 to 2011. Previous roles have included CEO of Cerebral Palsy Alliance and President and CEO of AFS Intercultural Programs in New York. He also served as Executive Director for UNICEF Australia in the late 80s. Prior to that he worked as a corporate lawyer for Clayton Utz and as a senior manager with Pioneer International and Rio Tinto.
