A New Venture Will Make Business Fair for Everyone Two former staff from Social Ventures Australia have launched a new social venture - Fair Business - aimed at creating employment for people seriously disadvantaged in the labour market. Alex Shead joined SVA in January 2008, initially working on the development of social enterprise hubs. Prior to relocating to Australia in 2003 Alex was the co-founder and CEO of Stuart Alexander (insurance & risk management) in the UK. Alex’s entrepreneurial skills have enabled an in depth knowledge of company acquisitions having completed in excess of 20 successful business purchases. Alex is a Director of both Winsure Insurance Group, a specialist Australian underwriting agency acting as a coverholder for Lloyd’s of London, and FirstUnity Financial Group, a boutique financial advisory and wealth management group Marc Manion joined SVA in June 2006 to assist non-profit ventures and entrepreneurs understand the important link between passion and business reality. Marc has extensive experience in business having established, acquired, grown and restructured operations throughout Australia. Marc's 'hands on' operational experience in the hospitality and service industries enables him to identify and report upon strategic issues, develop and implement solutions and achieve results. 
Fair Business Fair Business is a new non-profit organisation aiming to create employment for a significant number of disadvantaged people by acquiring existing businesses and adapting them into sustainable integrated workplaces. Fair Business will offer 'real jobs for real pay' to people who have struggled, and may otherwise always struggle, to get work within the competitive open labour market. Following six months of development work, Fair Business is currently evaluating the purchase of a number of existing businesses to kick start the new venture. The ultimate aim is to support these businesses to grow their market share and create 20+ jobs within the next 18 months for people disadvantaged in the labour market. 'We are very excited about Fair Business and its potential to create significant employment opportunities for those on the margins of society within financially sustainable businesses. Not only will we create real jobs for those that previously have been excluded from mainstream work but ultimately they will become business owners themselves as part of the eventual employee buy out.'
