SVA Indigenous Investor Circle
Australian Indigenous people are significantly disadvantaged when compared to the non-Indigenous population. Three salient statistics to illustrate this disadvantage include a 17 year gap in life expectancy compared to the rest of the Australian population, Indigenous children lagging three to five years behind non-Indigenous students by Year 7 and an unemployment rate amongst Indigenous people that’s double the national average. The causes and effects of Indigenous disadvantage are complex and interrelated. Consensus amongst SVA and our Indigenous community building partners highlighted that economic development, education and governance are critical for improving the quality of life of Indigenous people. In 2008, SVA established the Indigenous Investor Circle to unite social investors interested in Indigenous issues. The program allows investors to pool financial and strategic resources to maximise their investments in a thoughtful and leveraged way.
