Non-Profits

Information for Non-profits

Social Ventures Australia (SVA) was established in 2002 as an independent non-profit organisation. We invest in social change by helping increase the impact and build the sustainability of those in the social sector.

SVA’s investments are focused on high potential organisations that are fostering solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing our community. We provide funding and strategic support to carefully selected non-profit partners, as well as offering consulting services to the social sector more broadly.
As a non-profit organisation at the forefront of sector development and innovation, SVA works in collaboration with sector partners, as well as government, business, and some of Australia’s leading philanthropists.

To help you to quickly find the information you need, here are some of the ways that non-profit organisations and social enterprises engage with SVA.

Non-profits: Partner SVA through its portfolio of initiatives

SVA provides support to a carefully selected portfolio of initiatives. This support could include assistance with strategic planning, financial sustainability, measurement and/or performance evaluation. SVA leverages our networks to help these initiatives scale innovative responses to entrenched problems, meet the challenges of organisational growth and communicate the impact of their work.

Social enterprises: Receive support through a social enterprise development project

SVA has been pioneering work in Australia over the past five years to support the development of social enterprises. At SVA, our focus is on developing social enterprises that create employment (real work for real pay) for people excluded from the labour market. This can include people with disabilities, people experiencing mental illness, Indigenous Australians, ex-offenders, homeless people, refugees or migrants.

SVA currently manages a number of projects on behalf of government, including the Queensland Government’s Department of Communities’ Queensland Inclusive Social Enterprises (QISE) project and Youth Enterprises Partnership (YEP) project and the Supporting Social Enterprises Project (SSEP) funded by the Australian Government as part of the Jobs Fund ‘Get Communities Working’ initiative.

Non-profits and social enterprises: Engage consulting services

The non-profit sector is continually challenged to deliver real benefits to society whilst improving efficiency and effectiveness.

Non-profit organisations and social enterprises engage SVA Consulting to draw on their professional skills, expertise and knowledge to deliver their mission and grow their impact. Customised and results driven solutions are built from an understanding of the market and a methodical approach to developing organisational strategy, enhancing operational delivery and providing the evidence required to demonstrate success.

Non-profits and social enterprises: Work with SVA on cross sector collaboration

SVA collaborates and works in partnership across all sectors – social, business, philanthropic and government – on the development of the non-profit and philanthropic sectors.

Of particular focus is the development of new solutions that better direct social investment to proven innovative programs and addresses the systematic funding gap that is currently inhibiting the growth of quality non-profit organisations.

Some examples of recent cross sector collaboration projects include the GoodStart syndicate’s purchase of 650 plus ABC Learning childcare centres, a partnership with the Centre for Social Impact (CSI) and PricewaterhouseCoopers Foundation to increase awareness of Social Return on Investment (SROI) in Australia and the 2009 Social Enterprise World Forum.
