Getting teacher education right

The launch of the National Exceptional Teachers for Disadvantaged Schools program.

Teacher education is a critical issue in efforts to lift educational outcomes for disadvantaged students. This is because the research clearly shows that the most important lever within schools to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged students is outstanding teaching – and outstanding teachers can be developed through effective teacher education programs.

In June, SVA shared our insights on teacher education – gained through many years of working with outstanding educators across the country – in a submission to the Teacher Education Ministerial Advisory Group (TEMAG). I recently wrote about the key recommendations of our submission for an opinion piece in The Age and Sydney Morning Herald. I invite you to read the article.

TEMAG offers an exciting opportunity to get teacher education right in Australia.

We hope that promise is realised for the benefit of all in our community.
